Our Purpose

More Than Clean Homes

At Shine, giving back is not a program or a campaign. It is the reason we exist. From the very beginning, this business has been about more than clean homes. It has been about what happens when you give hardworking women a real opportunity and walk alongside them as they build something of their own.

That belief did not come from a business plan. It came from lived experience.

Our journey into this community started long before Shine did. Working alongside immigrant and refugee families across Central Iowa, we saw firsthand what these women were up against. They had arrived in a new country, often with little more than a plastic bag and the dream of a better life for their children. They were determined, capable, and full of potential. What they needed was someone willing to see that and do something about it.

That is what Shine Housekeeping set out to be. A business that creates real jobs, builds real skills, and treats every team member as the leader they already are.

In the Community

Hope to Shine Iowa

Out of that same conviction, Hope to Shine Iowa was born. Founded as a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating community connections, mentorship, and economic opportunities for immigrant and refugee women across Central Iowa, Hope to Shine Iowa grew directly from the heart of this business.

Using a human centered design approach, meaning the women with lived experience were at the table helping shape every decision, Hope to Shine Iowa has piloted programs, hosted community dinners, built mentorship networks, and created spaces where women from all walks of life can come together, support one another, and thrive.

What We Do For Our Team

We see every person on our team as a leader. Not just in their job, but in their home, their workplace, and their broader community. That is not just something we say. It is something we invest in every single day.

Here is what that looks like in practice. When a team member joins Shine, we do not just hand them a mop and a schedule. We conduct a skills inventory so we understand where they are starting and where they want to go. We offer opportunities to build digital workforce skills, pursue a driver’s license, and earn a promotion to Lead Cleaner. Because we know that every skill gained here opens a door somewhere else in life, and that is exactly the point.
